Welcome to our dedicated website for “Abacus 09” - our industry’s premier annual convention.

“Abacus 09” will be held on the Gold Coast from 8 - 11 November 2009.

Building on the success of last year’s event in Darwin, Abacus 09 will bring together leaders from mutual financial institutions at a critical time of market disruption, risk and opportunity.

We are making some changes to our Convention format this year, to better meet the needs of Abacus members and deliver a shorter and well-targeted event.

Abacus 09 will kick-off with a welcome reception on the evening of Sunday 8 November.  Our main program will extend Monday to Wednesday, with targeted streams covering issues relevant to large and small mutuals, the return of our Regulatory Affairs Conference and quality keynote speakers include Dr John Laker, Chairman of APRA, external market commentators, and industry experts. 

A number of industry group AGMs will also be hosted over the course of the Convention to maximise the value of your participation and travel. 

Our location for this year combines the best in convention facilities, a range of accommodation options and easy and affordable transport. Our registration brochure will provide details of events that might interest delegates who arrive on the Gold Coast earlier, including discounted parks passes and the regular Gold Coast race meet. Our sponsored golf day will continue on Sunday morning - be sure to register early for this popular event.

Abacus members are facing real challenges as the global financial crisis continues to unfold.  We are, however, one of the strongest mutual sectors in the world.  New competitive opportunities are emerging for a member-focused, secure alternative in the market.  This year’s Convention will focus on seizing these opportunities. 

This website will be progressively updated as program details are finalised.  Registration information will be available in early July.
