Welcome to Abacus 09 Convention website
“Abacus 09” will be held on the Gold Coast from 8 - 11 November 2009. Abacus 09 will bring together leaders from mutual financial institutions at a time of competitive challenge and opportunity.
I hope that you will join us for what promises to be an exciting and informative conference, built around the theme of “Building our Advantage”. Keynote speakers include David Koch Media and Finance commentator, Dr John Laker Chairman of APRA, Phil Ruthven futurist and forecaster, the Assistant Treasurer the Hon Nick Sherry, and Michael Hourigan, renowned Human Rights Lawyer. Our industry sessions will see delegates updated on Board and management strategy, on service to business conversion, on collective industry promotion and many other topics. Industry leaders will share their views on lessons learnt from the GFC and opportunities ahead. We have introduced a “masterclass” for smaller mutuals, held in business streams on Wednesday 11 November, covering market, compliance and pricing issues. And our popular Emerging Leader program continues, with a strong education program. Abacus 09 will host important industry AGMs, including the Abacus AGM (Wednesday 11 November), CUFSS AGM (Sunday 8 November), Cuscal AGM (Monday 9 November) and Indue AGM (Monday 9 November) as well as a dedicated forum for friendly society representatives. Our social program is also strong, with Bridges sponsoring the popular Golf Day on Sunday 8 November at Royal Pines Resort. The Welcome Reception on Sunday evening will kick off proceedings, and on Monday cocktails in the Exhibition Hall will wrap up our first Convention day. Don’t forget your “Very GC” costume for the Gala Dinner on Wednesday night which will close our event.
