Wine Tour Mclaren Vale

Perhaps one of South Australia’s best-kept secrets is the picturesque McLaren Vale where vineyards, almond orchards and olive groves all grow within sight of the sea. The region is known for its wonderful Shiraz and Grenache which are grown in many family owned boutique wineries where you can visit and taste their wines. As well as the wine this wonderful Mediterranean climate has encouraged the development of almond orchards and glorious olive groves.

Your Tour could include:

  • A tasting at one of the outstanding family owned Boutique wineries, such as Wirra Wirra, d’Arenberg, or Hugh Hamilton
  • A tasting at Coriole Winery where grapes have been grown since 1920 and the first bottled Coriole wine was the 1970 Shiraz.  Coriole has earned its reputation of producing premium full-bodied red wines especially their estate Shiraz.  You can also enjoy their Italian varietals such as Sangiovese, Barbera and Nebbiolo
  • A visit to the McLaren Vale Olive Grove to sample a variety of Olive Oil products and learn about this fascinating fruit
  • Enjoy fine local almonds at the Almond Train or visit Hardy’s Tintara Cellars or Medlow’s fine chocolates

Internationally renowned as the world’s prettiest test cricket ground, Adelaide Oval was also the scene of the most dramatic match of the Bodyline series. If one of the crowd of 50,000 had jumped the fence, a riot would surely have followed. Experience the ground at rest in its garden setting, and behind the scenes to soak up the atmosphere of one of Australia’s great sporting sites. To explore the secrets of the Scoreboard is a mystical experience.

Then its off to visit The Bradman Collection at the Oval.  Here you can follow the Life and Times of the most famous cricketer in history through a well-presented exhibition. Listen to the Commentaries of some of the most exciting matches in the life of this cricketing legend. 

Cap it off with a Coopers Ale at the historical Queens Head Hotel, which has enjoyed a long association with the Cricket World.

Begin your Tour by visiting Coopers Brewery. Coopers, a family owned brewery has a long, rich history in South Australia which spans from its origins in 1862 to the present day.  Today you will visit the brew house, bottling hall and co-generation plant finishing in the History Museum.  Here you will enjoy tastings of Coopers famous ales, stouts and largers.

Afterwards visit that well known historic boutique brewery Port Dock Hotel where their expert brewer will introduce you to their “brews” including The Old Preacher.  A great way to relax and spend and afternoon.

The Barossa Valley is Australia’s best known and most historic wine region. The region produces some of the country’s finest wines, with names such as Rockford, Penfolds, Seppelt, Yalumba, and Peter Lehmann all based in the Barossa. Barossa winemakers craft brilliant Shiraz and are the custodians of some of the oldest Shiraz vines in the world. Other varieties grown include Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Semillon, Riesling and Viognier.

Settled mainly by immigrant Lutherans, the Barossa is passionate about celebrating its heritage and traditions. Its culinary traditions are obvious at the numerous butchers, bakeries, restaurants, farmers’ market and wineries, while nineteenth century European influences are reflected in the churches, shops and homes in each of the pretty towns.

  • An informative private tasting at Peter Lehmanns Wines to taste the wines that made them International Winemaker of the Year and Australian Wine Producer of the Year at the 2003 International Wine and Spirit Competition, London.   • Maggie Beers Farmshop to taste the range of seasonal treats of the region in a beautiful setting, perched on the side of a huge dam surrounded by vines and olives founded by Maggie Beer, cook, writer and owner of Maggie Beer products
